Antibiotic resistance is a major challenge to global public health. Faced with this growing threat, clinicians need access to local microbiological data to support antibiotic treatment decisions that are more targeted and tailored to the specific realities of each healthcare facility.
To address this challenge, clinicians, scientists, engineers, and marketing specialists have combined their expertise within Smartbiotic.
Since its founding in 2021, our team has continually grown to include new areas of expertise, driven by a shared ambition: to contribute to antimicrobial stewardship and make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.

Taïoh Yokoyama
Pharmacist Researcher
Taïoh Yokoyama holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and a Master’s in Public Health (Methodology and Statistics in Biomedical Research, Université Paris-Saclay, 2021). His master’s thesis, conducted at the GMRC of Strasbourg University Hospitals, focused on the analysis of longitudinal ICU data using mixed models. His pharmacy doctoral thesis (Faculty of Pharmacy of Strasbourg, 2023) examined the use of large language models for detecting adverse event signals.
His background combines several research experiences in biostatistics, machine learning and health data analysis. He is author and co-author of scientific work in pharmacovigilance and clinical microbiology, including an article published in Sleep (2021) and presentations at the BSAC 2025 and ESCMID 2026 conferences.
Since October 2025, he has served SmartBiotic as Science Project Officer, leading the scientific valorization of the solution.

Fredrick Mutisya
Medical and AI Developer
Dr. Fred Mutisya is a medical doctor, epidemiologist and health AI specialist with a focus on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), clinical decision support and data-driven health systems. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing MSc degrees in Data Science and Field Epidemiology. As a Health AI Consultant at Smartbiotic, he applies epidemiological, clinical and AI approaches to antimicrobial stewardship and resistance data analysis. In 2023, he won the Wellcome Global Grand Prize on Antimicrobial Resistance through the Vivli platform, recognising innovative use of AI to address AMR. His research explores machine learning, natural language processing and health data analytics for AMR surveillance, prediction and clinical decision-making, alongside the development of locally relevant AI solutions for healthcare in Africa

Mathieu Valette
Full Stack Developer
Mathieu Valette holds a 2024 engineering degree in Health Informatics (ISIS Castres) and a Master’s degree in Health Technologies (ÉTS Montréal). He began his career with several academic research roles before joining Smartbiotic in 2025 as a full-stack developer.
His dual background shapes his approach to work. He focuses particularly on interoperability—enabling the import and integration of data from hospitals or data warehouses into the software—as well as ensuring the reliability and clarity of that data once integrated. He applies his skills to the benefit of healthcare professionals and patients alike.

Yves Germani
Infectious Disease Expert
Yves Germani, is a graduate of the Institut Pasteur (Institut Pasteur diplomas in Genetics and in Bacteriology). He has a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Microbiology & Ecology) and a PhD in Natural Sciences (Immunology & Genetics). For more than 16 years, he was a director of research (chief of laboratory) at the Institut Pasteur, where he led several research programs on infectious diseases in Africa and Asia. He received a gold medal from the Société de Pathologie Exotique and was a laureate of the French Academy of Medicine for his work on rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases. He was also an instructor of Tropical Microbiology at Institut Pasteur. In his capacity as a qualified university professor of cell biology, he developed substantial contacts with numerous key leaders in this field, in France, Asia, Africa and in the USA.

These two paths allow him to blend his empathy with his problem-solving skills, offering solutions aimed at creating a strong emotional experience and impact (graphic identity, user experience, product design, and concept design). These needs matter even more to him in the medical field, where the human stakes are so significant.
